Daredevil Born Again Reportedly to wrap up with Season 3

 

According to sources, Daredevil: Born Again will conclude its run on Disney+ with its upcoming third season. The news coincides with reports that showrunner Dario Scardapane is exiting the production during post-production ahead of the final season, which is anticipated to air in 2027.

While Marvel Studios has not made an official public statement regarding the sudden shift, insiders note that Scardapane’s contract simply expired and was not renewed. His mid-post-production departure remains eyebrow-raising, as it leaves it temporarily unclear who will oversee the final stretch of editing and visual effects.

The original Daredevil series on Netflix aired for three successful seasons including a mini-series run of The Defenders where Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist joined Daredevil to save New York City from an existential threat. 

This isn't the first time there has been behind the scenes tumult. Famously there was a creative pivot during season one where they deviated from there original plans to instead pivot to incorporate the Netflix Daredevil show into the MCU canon. There was a complete showrunner change as well as reshoots, cut characters and altered storylines. 

As disappointing as this news is. Perhaps it shouldn't be too surprising considering that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is being set up for a soft reboot with Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars. It's possible that this iteration will not align properly with a younger Mutant filled Marvel Cinematic Universe. There is also the possibility that these characters and even performers will return in other projects One thing I can guarantee though is that we haven't seen the last of the Devil of Hell's Kitchen or is perennial adversary Kingpin. With Jon Bernthal's Punisher firmly entrenched in the MCU with his performance in Spider Man's Brand New Day we will likely see some kind of character and performance crossovers despite the soft reboot.
