Official Synopsis
Inspired by true events, Lucky Strike tells the story of one soldier trapped behind enemy lines during the last major German offensive during WWII, what will become known as The Battle of the Bulge. Armed only with his Motorola SCR-300 radio, a new technology only battle-ready near the end of the war, he must use his wits and spy craft to thwart the advancing Nazi Panzer army and find his way back home.
The film reunites director Rod Lurie, producer Marc Frydman and star and producer Scott Eastwood following their acclaimed film The Outpost.

Conceived as a Millennium Media movie and Perfection Hunter Production in association with BondIt Media Capital, Grobman Films, and Orogen Entertainment, the project features a core creative team led by producers Marc Frydman, Rod Davis Lurie, Jonathan Yunger, Les Weldon, and Yariv Lerner. The distribution rights deal was directly negotiated by Howard Cohen on behalf of Roadside Attractions, alongside Jonathan Saba, Jonathan Yunger, and JJ Nugent representing Millennium and the filmmaking collective.
The underlying narrative architecture grew from deep historical research conducted by co-writer Marc Frydman, shifting the traditional lens of World War II cinema toward the fierce tactical survival parameters of the Battle of the Bulge. The script tracks the harrowing existential journey of John Castle, an American soldier isolated behind enemy lines during Germany's final major offensive. Rather than relying on heavy artillery support, the protagonist must survive on pure spycraft and the cutting-edge capabilities of a newly battle-ready Motorola SCR-300 radio system to stall an advancing Nazi Panzer division, anchoring a high-stakes thematic exploration of human resolve and ingenuity.

One of my favorite directors returns with an impressive-looking World War II story set during the infamous Battle of the Bulge. Directed by Rod Lurie, Lucky Strike is scheduled for release on June 26, 2026, serving as a cinematic tribute to the 250th anniversary of the United States. The film tells the harrowing tale of a lone soldier trapped behind enemy lines, desperately fighting to find his way back home.
The film stars Scott Eastwood, who looks strikingly like a younger version of his legendary father. Eastwood, who also serves as a producer here, previously appeared in the hit World War II film Fury alongside Brad Pitt. In Lucky Strike, he takes center stage and appears to do most of the narrative's heavy lifting. The always affable Colin Hanks is featured in a key supporting role, alongside Academy Award nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, anchoring a powerhouse principal cast. In terms of aesthetics, the trailer looks impressive. With Rod Lurie at the helm, audiences can expect strict military accuracy and plenty of suspense, following his exceptional work on the critically acclaimed war drama The Outpost, a film I am a big fan of, as well as his sharp direction on The Contender and Nothing but the Truth. Lucky Strike shapes up to be a great, old-school war picture in the vein of classic works by filmmakers like Sam Fuller and John Sturges.
Based on the footage, there are some standout, high-tension sequences, with one set inside a isolated cabin involving villainous Nazi forces, there are also several thrilling gunfights as well. Given Lurie's stellar track record with The Outpost, we already know he excels at staging masterful, visceral wartime sequences.
I am sincerely hoping this film is received well for Lurie. He is a filmmaker who is never afraid to take big creative swings. Throughout his diverse filmography, he continuously demonstrates a profound love for storytelling while remaining a fierce champion of both art films and classic genre cinema. As a former film critic himself, he possesses the unique ability to seamlessly tackle vastly different arenas, ranging from intense political dramas and sports stories to investigative journalistic thrillers. Lucky Strike looks like a pure, adrenaline-fueled action ride that is sure to please audiences, especially as a patriotic celebration of our nation's milestone 250th anniversary. It will be fantastic to see this type of gritty, large-scale period action back on the big screen where it belongs.
