The Trailer
Trailer Reaction
The End of Oak Street is the latest film from writer-director David Robert Mitchell, best known for the hit horror It Follows and the brilliant yet underappreciated Under the Silver Lake. While few plot details have been released, the trailer suggests that something supernatural is afoot, establishing a mysterious tone filled with eerie imagery.
The footage reveals a seemingly normal family whose entire street has been transported to parts unknown. Their escape is cut off by a steep ravine, and the neighborhood appears to be stranded in a prehistoric world. Given that the film is produced by J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot, viewers can expect things to get "freaky," a suspicion confirmed when the teaser ends with a character fleeing from a massive dinosaur.
A major strength of the movie will likely be its cast, led by Anne Hathaway as Denise and Ewan McGregor as Greg. They are joined by the talented Maisy Stella, coming off her excellent performance in My Old Ass. Projects rarely attract this level of high-caliber talent without a strong script, which makes me even more excited to learn more about the story. Because this is only a teaser, there isn't much to glean regarding the deeper narrative. However, based on this first look, I am definitely intrigued.
