My Review

The Immortal Man serves as an inevitable conclusion and a cinematic homecoming for Thomas Shelby. Cillian Murphy effortlessly steps back into the iconic flat cap, delivering a performance defined by a haunting mix of tortured fatigue and lethal calculation. This movie feels like a fitting epilogue to the classic series. Although some fans might wish for the Peaky Blinders story to continue, The Immortal Man feels like an ending all parties can be content with. Some viewers may feel disappointed that more characters from the series fail to make appearances, but it is clear that this is a Tommy Shelby-centric story. It is a fitting swan song for Murphy, who chooses to end this arc while the character is still beloved.

Without venturing too much into spoilers, it is a definitive conclusion to his story.

As beloved as these stories are, there is rarely much variation in how they play out: violent gangsters usually don't die peacefully in old age surrounded by loved ones, and The Immortal Man doesn't try to rewrite the book here.

In terms of the main thrust of this particular story, it honestly treads familiar ground, so fans of the show need not fret. The violence, intrigue, and epic score remain, and the Birmingham streets are still violent and dangerous. The chemistry between Murphy and Barry Keoghan makes this passing of the torch feel vital. There will no doubt be more stories to tell. But this definitely closes a chapter. The action is also top-notch, with sequences recalling the series' best moments. Ultimately, it is a high-stakes finale that stays true to the show's dark soul.

✔️ Pros

  • Vital chemistry and "passing of the torch" between Murphy and Keoghan
  • Top-notch action sequences that rival the series' best moments
  • Provides a definitive, high-stakes ending for Tommy Shelby

❌ Cons

  • Treads very familiar narrative ground with little variation
  • Noticeable absence of several key series regular characters
  • Predictable trajectory for the "gangster" lifestyle

🏆 Final Verdict

★★★ out of 5 stars

The Immortal Man is a fitting, dark soul-stirring swan song that allows Thomas Shelby to exit while still on top. While it leans into familiar tropes and misses some of the wider cast, the electric pairing of Murphy and Keoghan ensures this cinematic epilogue feels both vital and definitive.
