The Trailer
Trailer Reaction
This is an incredible trailer.
Not only does the teaser feature an ominous dark tone, but it also highlights the incredible cast of the film. We are still months away, but the first trailer for Dune:Part 3 shifts the tone from the epic conquest of Part Two to something far more somber, political, and hauntingly beautiful. If the first two films were about the rise of a hero, this is clearly about the burden of leadership and the perils of proping political leaders up as religious figures.
Timothee Chalamet looks older, weary, and is rightfully carrying the weight of billions of deaths in his eyes. Chani looks like she has forgiven Paul, but all is not well. There are several breathtaking images in this brief teaser. but seeing Jason Momoa back as Duncan Idaho is the highlight. Although, he's not exactly acting like his jovial self. We also get our first look at Anya Taylor-Joy finally joining the action after her brief cameo in Dune Part 2. Robert Pattinson also looks menacing as the obvious antagonist of this story.
As triumphant as Dune 2 ended. It looks like Dune Part 3 will be a somber affair. There is a price to be paid and unfortunately it appears fate has Muad'Dib and his friends and family in its crosshairs. There are vibes of the Godfather Part II in this trailer with Paul turning to his mother for advice and asking how his father would handle a situation like this. But she can only offer a stark truth. That his father never started a War. It's incredibly poignant and a tragic moment that really captures the tone of this final chapter.
The "Holy War" visuals shown in brief flashes are terrifying, showing the dark side of Muad'Dib’s legend. This isn't just a sequel; it’s the tragic necessary deconstruction of the chosen one trope that makes Dune so unique.
The Lisan al-Gaib is returning. But it looks like only pain, suffering and destruction will be left in his wake.
