Nobody 2 - Review: Hutch Mansell’s Deadly Family Vacation

★★★½☆

A rare sequel that sticks to its guns without reinventing the wheel.

Hutch Mansell, AKA Nobody, returns in a sequel that manages to escalate the chaos without losing the charm of the original. This time, he’s taking his family on a vacation that quickly turns into a tactical nightmare. After the destructive events of the first film, Hutch is still navigating his past while paying off massive debts, proving that retirement is never truly an option for a man with his specific set of skills.

"Nobody 2 delivers entertaining action mixed with satisfying vengeance, all against unsavory antagonists who definitely have it coming. "
Ray Manukay

🎬 Cast & Crew

  • Director: Timo Tjahjanto
  • Starring: Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, Sharon Stone
  • Supporting: Christopher Lloyd, RZA, Colin Hanks
  • Writers: Derek Kolstad, Bob Odenkirk

The Vision

New director Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes for Us) brings a visceral, Indonesian action sensibility to the franchise. He delivers entertaining action mixed with satisfying vengeance, ensuring the explosive set pieces provide creative fun and visual candy. There is a palpable joy in seeing cocky antagonists underestimate Hutch, only to realize they've stepped into a buzzsaw of precision violence.

🎬 Cinephile Fun Facts

  • Director Swap: Tjahjanto was hand-picked for his reputation in extreme action cinema to elevate the sequel's physical stakes.
  • Sharon's Villain Era: Hollywood legend Sharon Stone specifically sought out a role that allowed her to be "completely unhinged."
  • Family Training: Connie Nielsen underwent rigorous tactical training to ensure Becca Mansell felt as lethally competent as Hutch himself.
  • Wick Connection: The script maintains its DNA via Derek Kolstad, the mastermind behind the John Wick universe.

✅ Pros

  • Bob Odenkirk's incredible and authentic physical commitment.
  • Sharon Stone’s scene-stealing turn as a menacing villain.
  • The "lethal family" dynamic adds a fresh, humorous layer.

❌ Cons

  • Lacks the lightning-in-a-bottle surprise of the first film.
  • Follows a somewhat predictable sequel escalation path.

Full Review

Hutch Mansell, AKA Nobody, returns—and this time, he’s taking the family on vacation. Following the destructive events of the first film, Hutch is still paying off his massive financial debts to the country, which serves as the perfect excuse for another high-octane, chaotic adventure. And honestly? It is still a lot of fun.

Sequels are notoriously tricky; the decks are always stacked against them, and the temptation for creatives is usually to either go "bigger and badder" or try to reinvent the wheel entirely. Luckily, Nobody 2 does neither. The film successfully maintains the fun while sticking to exactly what made the original great. It delivers entertaining action mixed with satisfying vengeance, all pitted against unsavory antagonists who definitely have it coming.

Bob Odenkirk delivers another fun and physically impressive performance, but this time he is bringing along an equally lethal Connie Nielsen, alongside returning family members Christopher Lloyd and RZA. Standing in their way is a surprisingly slimy Colin Hanks and, in a bold revelation, an unhinged and menacing Sharon Stone as the Russian Mafia boss, Lendina.

The explosive set pieces provide plenty of creative fun and visual eye candy, while also offering the classic satisfaction of watching cocky bad guys repeatedly underestimate Hutch and his lethal family. After delivering such a strong sequel, the question remains whether they should round out the story as a trilogy. While it’s hard to imagine why they wouldn't, the film leaves us in a good place where it could easily end here without the audience needing more.

I highly recommend checking out both the original and this sequel, especially if you are craving John Wick-style action but with a welcome tinge of feel-good, black humor. It's a successful follow-up that knows exactly what its audience wants.

🏆 Final Verdict

A high-octane follow-up that understands exactly why we liked the first one. Nobody 2 is a bloody, fun vacation that cements Hutch Mansell as a top-tier action icon.
